International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are designed by IASB (International Accounting Standards Board) as a common global language for business affairs so that company accounts are understandable and comparable across international boundaries. They are a consequence of growing international shareholding and trade and are particularly important for companies that have dealings in several countries. They are progressively replacing the many different national accounting standards. The rules to be followed by accountants to maintain books of accounts which is comparable, understandable, reliable and relevant as per the users internal or external. Currently it is used by more than 110 countries.
Indian Accounting Standards (abbreviated as Ind AS) are a set of accounting standards notified by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs which are converged with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). These accounting standards are formulated by Accounting Standards Board of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Till date 39 new Ind ASs are notified my MCA, which is applicable to India Inc from 1st April, 2015. Based on the international consensus, the regulators will separately notify the date of implementation of Ind AS for the banks, insurance companies etc.
